Your consumer unit (aka distribution board or fuse box) is the heart of your electrical installation. Not only does it supply power to all of your circuits, it also houses a host of safety features. A healthy consumer unit will help protect against the risk of electric shock, fire and damage to electrical appliances.
All consumer unit installations come with the following safety features as standard:
Fire Protection: metal consumer unit enclosure with all cable entries correctly sealed to maintain fire-resistant properties
Surge Protection Device (SPD): prevents sensitive electrical devices from being damaged in the event of power fluctuations
RCBOs: each circuit is fitted with one of these devices that will disconnect the supply in fault conditions
Protective Bonding: connections to incoming services such as gas and water pipes will be checked and upgraded if necessary
