Consumer Units

Your consumer unit (aka distribution board or fuse box) is the heart of your electrical installation. Not only does it supply power to all of your circuits, it also houses a host of safety features. A healthy consumer unit will help protect against the risk of electric shock, fire and damage to electrical appliances.

All consumer unit installations come with the following safety features as standard:

• Fire Protection: metal consumer unit enclosure with all cable entries correctly sealed to maintain fire-resistant properties

• Surge Protection Device (SPD): prevents sensitive electrical devices from being damaged in the event of power fluctuations

• RCBOs: each circuit is fitted with one of these devices that will disconnect the supply in fault conditions

• Protective Bonding: connections to incoming services such as gas and water pipes will be checked and upgraded if necessary
