Whilst it's compulsory to get an MOT for your vehicle each year, for most homeowners it's only recommended to have an Electrical Inspection and Condition Report (EICR) completed every ten years - some homes haven't been inspected for decades. There are a few reasons you might want to book in an EICR:
You're looking to buy a new property or have just moved in - a home buyers survey only covers basic visual checks
You're renting your property and require an EICR by law
You're concerned about the safety of your electrical installation
You're looking to have your consumer unit upgraded - an EICR is always strongly recommended beforehand
Upon completion of the EICR, you will receive a comprehensive digital report that includes full details of your electrical installation. This will include information about your electrical supply and results from the tests carried out on each circuit. A schedule of inspection with accompanying photos will highlight any areas that require attention - these are graded as follows:
C1 - Danger present, risk of injury, immediate remedial action required
C2 - Potentially dangerous, urgent remedial action required
C3 - Improvement recommended
Any items graded as C1 or C2 will require remedial action in order to ensure the safety of your installation. You will be provided with a quote for this remedial work upon receipt of your digital report.
